The Indian crime thriller comedy Blackout was launched on 07/06/2024. The film is based on the city of Pune which faces a blackout incident that threatens the entire city. In one scene, against the backdrop of crime, the character Lenny, a crime reporter played by Vikrant Massey, stumbles upon a truck with cash & gold. The critics considered the comedy crime film of 2024 “Blackout” a film that was rather mediocre. Unfortunately, an intriguing idea that suggests a journalist getting involved in a robbery while the night shift in a large city is on black-out gradually turns into a failure on the big screen.
- Shubhra Gupta of the Indian Express gave the film a negative review, stating that it was “worse than terrible” & containing too many logical fallacies. She observed that having gangsters, corrupt politicians, & a mysterious woman was random & abruptly added to the film.
- As for Hindustan Times, it too walked into this film carrying negative expectations & the result was only ‘Blackout’. Loud, chaotic, and humorless, the movie made the misjudgment of underestimating the audience’s intelligence & fell flat, despite having a good actor in the form of Vikrant Massey.
- Koimoi’s review was slightly more lenient & the reviewer had some fun with the protagonist’s ‘unavoidable series of mishaps.’ While the comedy did register well in the first half, the reviewer still felt that a satisfactory end was not provided.
