Touting a witty combination of genres, the show had received acclaim, though it could not draw a large audience, thus receiving the unfortunate and untimely cancellation.

A Regency Romp Gone Wrong
While ‘My Lady Jane’ is based on the historical figure of Lady Jane Grey – one of England’s smallest-reigning queens – it is alternative history with a liberal addition of fantasy, romance, comedy, and animals that can turn into people at will. Lauded for its scope and its enactment, the series appeared poised for greatness.
However, the Nine Days Queen’s reign was once again brought to an untimely end as Prime Video decided against giving the series a second season. That’s why showrunners Gemma Burgess and Meredith Glynn must be cursing their luck – their creative decision did not prove successful, at least in terms of the executives.
A Truly Regal Shame
And even though ‘My Lady Jane’ was not perhaps as popular among the masses as some other series, critics fell in love with the series, deeming it one of the best new series out there. Unfortunately, Nielsen’s streaming rankings are more telling, and the show never reached the online streaming list of the top ten programs.
Conclusion
The scriptwriter needed about 3 more episodes of screentime to become a believable character but ‘maybe Prime Video was expecting another ‘Bridgerton’ and instead got a ‘Sanditon.’ Either way, it is really a pity to witness such an entertaining and distinctive show getting the ax in the middle of its run.
Here is waiting for the further evolution of the sharp-tongued narrator’s statement “Our story is not over yet”. For now, fans will have to be content with what is a rather happy ending, albeit a rather quick one, for Lady Jane and Lord Guildford Dudley!
